Description

If you’re short on time in Rome yet still want to glory in the best of the Eternal City, this full-day small-group walking tour delivers, with skip-the-line access to the Vatican Museums, St Peter’s Basilica and the sights of Ancient Rome. Avoid long lines at the Colosseum; visit the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill; and stroll to see the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and more. Finish with priority access to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. Numbers limited to six people for a small-group experience.

Meet your guide near the Colosseum and start your small-group walking tour. Unsurprisingly, the ancient Roman arena attracts big crowds, so your skip-the-line access is an important plus. Skip the main entrance lines and head inside for a close-up look at the Colosseum’s first and second tiers. Soak up the sight of the amphitheater and hear gruesome tales of the gladiatorial contests staged here for Rome’s emperors and blood-hungry citizens. Learn how the structure took nine years to build and, as you explore, imagine the roar of the crowds and terror of those who fought for their lives here, sometimes against ravenous wild animals. Stroll to the nearby Roman Forum, once the hub of Rome’s political and commercial activity. See its ancient relics, including the House of the Vestal Virgins, and walk up Palatine Hill to view the Forum's remains, and Circus Maximus, spread below.

Next, amble through the winding alleyways of Rome’s historical center. Pause to admire the Piazza Venezia and toss a coin in the Trevi Fountain, and then stop for photos at the 2nd-century Pantheon before hopping into a taxi to the Vatican City.

After free time for lunch (own expense) near the Vatican, enjoy skip-the-line access to the Vatican Museums, home to the world’s greatest collection of art — a remarkable display case of priceless treasures amassed by popes since the 16th century. Experience the Gallery of Maps, the Gallery of the Tapestries and the splendid Raphael Rooms as your guide charts the main exhibits, and then visit the Vatican's showpiece — the astonishing Sistine Chapel. Ogle Michelangelo’s sublime The Creation of Adam ceiling fresco, painted between 1508 and 1512, and admire his The Last Judgment fresco, set behind the altar of this wondrous papal sanctuary. End your tour with a visit to St Peter’s Basilica, the world’s largest church. Gaze in awe at its soaring dome, Michelangelo’s La Pietà sculpture and Bernini’s altar canopy, before ending your tour.

Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required. The order of sightseeing as described above may be subject to change on the day of your tour.

ABOUT OUR 6 PEOPLE SMALL GROUP POLICY

When you book a small group tour, you are guaranteed one tour guide per group of 6 people. Please bear in mind though that in order to accommodate traveling families and friends, we do on rare occasion make the exception of adding an additional one to two guests in order not to split groups who are traveling together. On that same note, you may find yourself on tour with less than six people. As we accept bookings in multiples of six, math doesn’t always work in our favor to help accommodate individual travelers and their families when on the same tour, so we hope you understand and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
